David Walker
B:   1903, Middlesbrough, Cleveland, Yorkshire - North Riding
D:   1916, Middlesbrough, Cleveland, Yorkshire - North Riding
"Uncle David died just when my granddad was on convalescene leave from the army at home after he got shot in France. My mom told me that one day, her brother and a group of friends were running for the tram in Linthorpe Road, before it moved off. His friends still managed to get on just before it set off. David was last to jump on as it was moving away. Unfortunately, the conductor saw him jumping on and took umbrage at it. Before David was fully in the tram, the conductor caught him, prised his fingers open and pushed him off the platform not recognizing the tram following right behind. David fell right under its wheels and got killed close to St. George's Church.
When the conductor got charged with manslaughter through culpable negligence, he tried to justify his actions saying that he didn't mean the boy to get killed, but that finally, he would have broken an unwritten rule means "not to get on a vehicle whilst in motion." --- According to my mom, David had been the last person in Middlesbrough killed by a tram."

John William Walker

My mom told me that her brother, 'John Willie', died short after the War's end trying to take surrender of 'die-hard Nazis' while carrying a white flag towards them. They still shot him. He was never married and didn't leave any issue.

"I remember uncle Jack. It is sad to say, but he was a gambler and drinker. When I was about thirteen years old I found him sleeping rough under tin sheets in the "Cabbage Club Allotments" just off Stockton Road in Middlesbrough. Looking back I guess he and his wife had split up probably because of his addictions. I known uncle Jack and aunt Edna had at least two children. In addition, Aunt Edna had some more children, born before she had married uncle Jack and after both had split up again."
